I've been thinking about doing a character design project, just to see how it would turn out. I haven't come up with a general theme for the designs (sci-fi, fantasy etc.), but maybe I should put it to a vote? This isn't geared towards a plotline, but it might end up developing itself anyway.

But my goal is to see what kinds of characters unfold when you are given no information about them except for his/her name. So it is up to the artist what the character's gender, age, race, personality, etc. should be.

(As for the distribution of characters, I'm debating if they should be assigned or if the artist should be able to pick.)


In any case, if you would be interested in participating, or have any suggestions, just let me know. Suggestions for an overall theme and project title are welcomed!

Okay, I think it'll be easier just be updating this entry for the most part. But in any case, I currently have about 54 names available.

Character selection will be determined by the artist selecting a number between 1 and 54 as a comment here in my journal. So it's like drawing a name out of a hat. If two people ask for the same one by accident, it will go to whomever asked first. Characters will be issued one at a time, so please finish your current selection before requesting another.

I'll have a list put in with all the numbers available (see below), but the name won't be revealed until later, after artwork has been completed. It adds to the mystery...

After you make a selection, you'll receive a PM with your character's name and after that, you're free to have at it! The list here in my journal will be updated, showing that the slot you've picked has been filled, but after you've finished your piece, I'll have the name posted, as well as a link to your art. Afterwards, if you would like to do another, just comment below with your number and I'll PM you!

The names themselves follow a sort of pattern (you'll see when you get the message), but the story theme has yet to be determined. I've never done steam punk before. How's that sound?

As always, suggestions for a title would be awesome and well-received.

Oh, and a note on designs. Keep them clean, please. You are not required to make it a completely colored piece; sketches and lineart will work just fine. But if you would like to add color, by all means, go ahead! We can worry about color later.

Once this is all finished, I might compile everything into one big spread with the title overhead. But we'll see; we'll come to that bridge when we get there.

But most of all, have fun! Be imaginative!

Sorry about not updating yesterday! We were spending the night in a hotel and there wasn't any wireless. But lemme update the list and I'll get those PMs sent out!

Whew! Dang, that was a lot! Okay, so by now, some of you might see a pattern forming with just the name I've given you.

Remember, the theme is Steam Punk/Fantasy and I've set a general deadline for 31 July. It's not absolutely necessary to have it in by then, but this gives you some time to work through it. I've received several requests for a deadline because some folks like planning out their work, and that's fine. Just don't wait until December.

But once you're all finished, just go ahead and post it up on DA. Then, just send me a link and I shall make the appropriate adjustments here so that everyone can see your work.

For those of you who aren't artists and are more up the literary alley, if you have any ideas for a series title, go ahead and pitch those in! (Something steam-punky-ish...) I'll post them here and if there are enough entries, I might put it to a vote or something like that.
